An active, locally stormy period of weather ahead from the southern Plains into the Southeast

Mild, dry weather will prevail during the next several days, with a notable exception.  In the south-central U.S., a developing storm system will produce mid-week snow across southern sections of the Rockies and High Plains, with disruptively heavy accumulations possible in an area centered on western Oklahoma, northeastern New Mexico, and the northern panhandle of Texas.

As precipitation shifts slowly eastward, 5-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches from central Texas to the western Gulf Coast.
