At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, live and feeder cattle were lower on profit-taking, waiting for more direct business to develop, and Friday’s On Feed numbers. February live cattle closed $1.62 lower at $168.67 and April live cattle closed $1.65 lower at $172.17. January feeder cattle closed $2.35 lower at $221.70 and March feeder cattle closed $2.37 lower at $223.37.
It was another pretty quiet day for direct cash cattle trade activity. While inquiries did pick up, it was another day without any noteworthy business. Asking prices have been a bit more aggressive at $173 to $175 live and $272 dressed. It looks like significant trade volume is going to hold out until sometime on Friday.
