Evelyn Rose Axtell – Voice Of Muscatine



Evelyn Rose Axtell, 81, of Letts, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at her home.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Interment will be in Letts Cemetery.  Following the interment,  a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Letts Community Center.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 A.M until service time at the funeral home.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Evelyn’s name. Evelyn Rose Estabrook was born on January 13, 1942 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of William Wallace and Mary (Dusenberry) Estabrook.  On February 21, 1959, Evelyn was united in marriage to Leo L. Axtell, Sr. in Muscatine.  Evelyn attended the Letts Bible Church and served as a Girl Scout Leader.  She enjoyed baking-especially cookies and homemade bread, taking care of the cows, raising white German Shepherds, crafting, doing puzzles, playing cards, spending time with her children and grandchildren and dearly loved her English Bulldog “Echo”.  

Evelyn will be deeply missed by her children, Debbie Fitzgerald of Portland, Oregon, Connie Oxley of Wapello, Leo “Deano” (Robin) Axtell, Jr. of Grandview,  Janet Fuller of Wapello, Brenda Axtell of Wapello, Scott (Susan) Axtell of Fortuna, Missouri and Wanita (Paul) Brewer of Letts; 22 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Reed of Muscatine.  

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son, Jerry Axtell; brothers, Albert, William, Ed and Lewis Estabrook; sisters, Edith Smalley, Helen Herlein, Deloris Phillips and Pearl Phillips and one son-in-law, Brian Oxley.
