A new executive order requires Missouri landowners to alert the Missouri Department of Agriculture anytime they plan to sell farmland to a foreign individual or company.
Missouri state statutes currently limit foreign ag land ownership to 1%.
The executive order, signed by the governor in early January, also requires more detailed reporting for any potential foreign ag land purchases. Ag Director Chris Chinn tells Brownfield an emergency rulemaking will begin soon to provide more clarity in the reporting process.
