Mary Jane Painter – Voice Of Muscatine



Mary Jane Painter, 83, passed peacefully into eternal glory and the arms of her Savior, Jesus, on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine, Iowa.

There will be a private graveside service for the family.  A Celebration of Life for both David and Mary Jane Painter will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11 – 1 at Mulford E Free Church, 2400 Hershey Avenue.  All family and friends are invited.

The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Jim Painter, for a future project at church. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Mary Jane was born on August 19, 1940, in Muscatine, the daughter of Arnold and Esther Lichtenwald Pulliam. She married David Lloyd Painter on November 7, 1959, in Muscatine.

Mary Jane graduated from Muscatine High School, class of 1958.  She worked as a homemaker, custodian at Mulford Church, and a lab technician at GPC.  She enjoyed yard sales, shopping and lunch with her sisters, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include four sons:  Jim (and Angie) Painter of Muscatine, Tim (and Sonja) Painter of Muscatine, Chris (and Deb) Painter of Fruitland, and Scott (and Janice) Painter of Muscatine, two sisters, Barbara Sulzberger and Judi Heuer, one brother, Bob (and Pam) Pulliam of Wilton, and sister-in-law, Rita Painter.  There are 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents, brother-in-laws, Jim Heuer, John Painter, Mike Painter, Denny Sander, and sister-in-laws, Judy Sander, and Sherry Painter.
