Pork producers are concerned about the burden state livestock confinement laws are placing on the industry.
National Pork Producers Council president-elect Lori Stevermer says a federal solution is needed to address California’s Proposition 12 and Question Three, a similar law passed in Massachusetts.
“Something that’s going to work for pork producers, because really their concern is a patchwork of regulations. I eluded to Prop 12 and Question Three, you know we hear from pork producers we don’t want another type of regulation from another state that creates that patchwork.”
She tells Brownfield NPPC supports the EATS Act, legislation in Congress that would prevent states from regulating ag practices within their own borders.
