A group of food companies critical of legislation that addresses Proposition 12 is calling on Congress to take a closer look.
Mike Salguero, founder of direct-to-consumer meat company ButcherBox, says more than 20 companies plan to send a letter to key congressional partners outlining concerns with the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression Act.
“We are worried about EATS language making it into the farm bill (because) it is denying states who overwhelmingly voted for production of animals in a certain way, it’s denying them the ability to have a say in the type of product they want to eat.”
ButcherBox sells 100 percent grass-fed and finished beef that is mostly sourced from Australia and pork that is not raised in confinement.
