The Muscatine Police Department’s Chaplain Corps is looking for men and women who would like to volunteer as Police Chaplains. The Corps is rebuilding the program and new chaplains are needed to serve the department and the public.
Chaplains receive no pay or benefit but attendance for training opportunities are compensated. Chaplains ride with officers, respond to emergency calls, and provide mental health support to both departmental personnel as well as to citizens that are encountered by law enforcement who are in need of assistance.
Chaplains are required to be trained ministers in good standing with their respective religious affiliations. Chaplains provide presence and pastoral care as needed but do not carry weapons or have police authority. Those who choose to join the Corps must be available on an immediate notification/response basis when necessary for critical incidents.
