Council to hear public input on two upcoming construction projects this evening – Voice Of Muscatine

Approval of the plans and specifications for two upcoming projects is on the Muscatine City Council agenda for Thursday (Feb. 15) along with setting seven public hearings for the first meeting in March.

Two public hearings will be held Thursday with the first on the plans and specifications for the upgrades to the Clark House elevators and the second on the plans and specifications for the Grandview Avenue Sidewalk Extension Project. Resolutions to approve proceeding with bidding for the two projects will be voted on later in the meeting.

The Clark House elevators have not seen major upgrades since they were originally installed in 1977. The $959,700 project will upgrade the mechanicals of the two elevators, one elevator at a time, and will extend the useful life of the elevators. The cost will be covered using funds from the Muscatine Municipal Housing Agency’s Capital Program and ARPA.

The Grandview Avenue Sidewalk Extension Project will construct a sidewalk on the “north” side of Grandview from Houser to the crossing at Headquarters Restaurant.

A public hearing on revisions to Muscatine City Code regarding the use of UTVs within City Limits will be held in the opening meeting Thursday. The proposed changes would permit Utility Vehicles on Park Avenue and Dick Drake Way in addition to the already permitted usage on City of Muscatine streets.

The City Council will also be asked to:

  • Set March 7 for public hearings on the Airport Lighting Project, West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project Phase 6C, amending the Construction Appeal and Advisory Board ordinance to allow for a member residing in the county, and four public hearings on General Obligation Loan Agreements;
  • Define Council liaisons roles and responsibilities to the various City Boards and Commissions, and assign liaisons; and,
  • Approve a contract with Waters Edge Aquatic Design for the Riverfront Fountain Renovation Project.

The Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. and the public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend the session in person.

Several options are available for those who cannot attend in person but would like to watch the proceedings. The City Council meeting will be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Civic-TV (Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2).
