Michael J. Bunn Sr., 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at UnityPoint Health Muscatine, surrounded by his family.
Memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the First Baptist Church. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the church. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Janis, or First Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Mike was born December 8th, 1941, to Fred and Willyan Hart Bunn in Muscatine, Iowa. He married Janis Batchelor on May 6, 1972, in Muscatine.
It’s been said Mike was born holding a steering wheel. Mike loved the road and trucking. Mike worked 45 years for Roadway Express driving nearly 4 million miles accident free. Providing for his family, Mike still made it to concerts, games, and family events. Mike retired in 2006 and continued to camp and enjoyed watching his Cubs, Bears, and Hawkeyes games.
Mike enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota, camping along the river, and spending time with his family. Mike had five kids, 14 grandkids, and 7 great grandkids that were his pride and joy. Mike was full of jokes, kept those around him on their toes, but loved everyone he encountered. He didn’t know a stranger and had a way of brightening everyone’s day.
Michael is survived by his wife, Janis; children, Scott Bunn and his wife, Jessica, Melissa Van Est and her husband, Darin, and Michael Bunn Jr. and his wife, Lisa Norwood; 14 grandchildren, Corey, Andrew, Jacob, Karen, Nathan, Tiffany, Sabra, Sascha, Jonathan, Rachel, Irvin, Angel, Dianne, and Adalynn; 7 great grandchildren, Chase, Ashlynn, Malachi, Nevaeh, Lucas, Ellie, and Taylee; siblings, Larry Bunn and Margaret ‘Peg’ Renfro; and son-in-law, Luis Cacho.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughters Stephany Barton and Michelle Cacho; and mother-in-law, Lorraine Batchelor.
