The nation’s next significant precipitation event will arrive in the Northwest late in the weekend, accompanied by a surge of colder air. Rain and snow showers will eventually overspread the remainder of the western U.S.
By early next week, temperatures below 0°F may occur near the Canadian border from Montana to Minnesota.
Meanwhile, warmth in advance of the cold outbreak could briefly push temperatures to 90°F or higher in parts of Texas.
A cold front separating the cold and warm air will become more active by Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms erupting from the mid-South into the Midwest.
