In a display of sheer dominance and teamwork, the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team dazzled their home fans with a masterful 101-85 victory over the Fighting Illini. Coming off a challenging road loss to Indiana, the Hawkeyes were hungry for redemption—and they found it on their home court in front of a roaring, sell-out crowd of 15,000 at Carver Hawkeye Arena.

From the opening tip-off, the Hawkeyes took control, setting the pace with a rapid 9-0 lead. Martin hitting an early three-pointer in the first, followed soon by Feuerbach, who sank two three-pointers in rapid succession, showcasing the depth and sharpshooting prowess of the team. Although star player Clark was limited to 8 points in the opening quarter, she electrified the crowd with a key three-pointer and a steal, demonstrating her all-around impact on the game.

The first half concluded with the Hawkeyes comfortably ahead, 50-34, thanks to a collaborative team effort. With Clark contributing 9 points—below her usual standard—the spotlight was on the rest of the team, who rose to the occasion magnificently. The team’s exceptional performance included three-pointers from five different players and a total of 16 assists, highlighting their unselfish play and versatility. With that many shooters hitting deep shots the Hawks are hard to defend. Davis stood out the first half with her impressive 12-point contribution, demonstrating her scoring ability from beyond the arc, in the paint, and from the free-throw line.

Clark’s back-to-back three-pointers early in the third quarter reignited the Hawkeye spirit, as the team continued to dominate. Despite the Fighting Illini’s attempts to mount a comeback and their efforts to contain Clark, who finished with 24 points, their defense couldn’t match the Hawkeyes’ relentless and deliberate offense. With four players scoring in double digits and nine players contributing to the scoreboard, the Hawkeyes exemplified the power of teamwork and shared success.

This victory not only marked a return to form for the Hawkeyes but also sent a strong message about their resilience and collective strength. Even with Clark not performing at her usual level, the team’s depth and unity paved the way for a convincing win. As the Hawkeyes prepare to face Minnesota on the road next Wednesday, they carry with them the momentum and confidence from this triumphant home performance.
