Muscatine Parks and Recreation staff have been working hard preparing the Muscatine Aquatic Center opening day of the 2024 swim season. Parks Maintenance staff and Lifeguards have spent the last several weeks filling the pool, testing water chemistry and training in preparation for Opening Day.
The gates to the Aquatic Center will swing open at 12 p.m. Saturday (May 25) and the weather forecast is favorable to that first trip to the center this year. The Aquatic Center is open 12-8 p.m. on days of operation, weather permitting.
The Muscatine Aquatic Center will be closed on Sunday, May 26, due to the Melon City Criterium taking place in Weed Park. The facility will reopen on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, closed on May 28 and 29, and then begin daily operations on May 30.
Programs and other activities will take place outside of Open Swim hours. Find information on swimming lessons, private pool parties, lap swim and more in the 2024 Activities Brochure. To schedule a party, purchase a season pass or ask questions about the Muscatine Aquatic Center, please contact the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241.

MIST NOT MISTING THIS YEAR
For nearly 20 years the Mississippi Mist along the riverfront has provided a fun option to cool off in the summer heat, but that will not be the case this year. The Mississippi Mist will remain closed this year as the City of Muscatine completes renovations to the splash pad so that it can provide many more years of fun for the young and old residents and visitors to Muscatine. Work is anticipated to take most of the summer.
TAYLOR PARK SPLASH PAD OPENING DELAYED
Muscatine Parks and Recreation will keep the water turned off at the Taylor Park Splash Pad until construction activity has been completed. The long-awaited restroom area is still a work in progress as is some additional landscaping. Keeping the public’s safety in mind, Parks and Recreation staff has decided not to turn the water on until construction activity has been completed. Stay tuned for more information later on when the splash pad will open.
STILL PLENTY TO DO IN MUSCATINE
Muscatine offers a variety of recreational opportunities that can be taken advantage of while the splash pads are kept dry. Visit the Muscatine Aquatic Center if you feel the need to splash about in a pool of water, or head out to the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course for a round or two in the fresh air of the great outdoors.
Muscatine has numerous parks that feature shelters and playgrounds, or take in a game or two at Kent Stein or the Muscatine Soccer Complex. There are also miles and miles of recreational trails that encircle the City of Muscatine and a section of the trail also winds it way out to Deep Lakes Park.
Have a boat and want to be out on the river any given day of the week? Rent a slip at the Muscatine Boat Harbor and avoid the hassle of launching and recovering your boat every time you want out on the water. Call 563-263-0241 to find out more about renting a boat slip in the Muscatine Harbor.
