Rodney Allen, better known as ‘Rod,’ McCullough, 70, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Genesis East, after a courageous battle with throat cancer.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rod’s son-in-law, Josh Townsend, will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pat Dwyer, Brett Wolever, Jeremy Fowler, Steve Borchert, Jeff Fahy, Mike Catalona, Jeremy Williams, and Josh Townsend.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society, Discovery Park, Muscatine County Conservation Board, or St. Jude’s Hospital. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Rod was born on June 17, 1954, in an Army base hospital that is borderline Kentucky and Tennessee, the son of Don and Audrey Ruth Spratt McCullough. Rod met his soulmate, Judy Porter, and shared 30+ years together.
Rod was a 1972 graduate of Muscatine High School. He owned and operated Spratt Oil Sales. He bought the family business that was established by his grandfather, Jack Spratt, and bought it from Norman Bunn in the 1980’s. His customers were important to him who were all like his family.
When Rod wasn’t working, he loved being outdoors. He liked to go fishing in Canada, canoeing in the Maquoketa River, Sunday drives with his river maps, and especially loved the Island life and going to the Sanibel Island with Judy. Rod enjoyed his class reunions each year and gathering with friends.
Rod will be deeply missed by his life partner, Judy Porter of Fruitland; the girls he thought as of his daughters, Amber (Jeremy) Williams of Muscatine, and Carine (Josh) Townsend of Fruitland; grandchildren, Ashton and Ethan Elder, and Drake and Drea Townsend; cousins, Carol Lea Riley, Susan Jones, Terri Wedekind, Susie Adams, and Debbie Castle; and aunt, Betty Bunn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Audrey Spratt McCullough; maternal grandparents, Jack and Esther Spratt; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Florence Gettert McCullough; and aunt and uncle, Norman and Dorothy Bunn.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Genesis East for their compassion and kindness towards Rod and also to the infusion nurses at Genesis West that knew him as ‘Hot Rod’.
