Gary Joseph Bennett – Voice Of Muscatine


Gary Joseph Bennett, 72, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Military services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Muscatine City Inc, following the visitation at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gary’s honor for a tree planted at the Muscatine Arboretum in his memory. Food and fellowship to follow at the American Legion in Muscatine. Gary was born in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Mary (Krokowski) Bennett and Eugene Bennett on May 16, 1952. Gary married Contance “Connie” Clancey on April 28, 1973. He was a proud father to three sons, Josh, Doug, and Sam and was a wonderful grandfather to three granddaughters, Brooke, Briar, and Coralie.

Gary graduated from Sioux City Heelan in 1972. Later, he joined the Air Force and spent his off time in Germany, travelling the country with his wife, Connie. Following that, he lived in Florida where he finished his tour of duty. Moving back to Sioux City, he started his own electronics business. He later moved his family to Muscatine, where he worked for Bandag and later started Bennett Industrial Electronics. He will be missed by his family and those who knew him.

Gary is survived by his wife, Connie of Muscatine; sons, Josh (Connie Chornuk) Bennett of Nashville, Tennessee, Doug (Erin Howk) Bennett of Muscatine, and Sam (Leslie) Bennett of Muscatine; granddaughters, Brooke, Briar, and Coralie Bennett; and sister, Mary Rygh of Sioux City.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Eugene; sister, Linda; and brother, Ray.
