John Steven Shryock Sr., 77, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the St. Mathias Church. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m., on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Fire Fighters Association of Muscatine.
John was born on July 22, 1947, in Coshocton, Ohio, the son of John Frederick and Betty Jane McKillip Shryock. He married Joyce Marie Chrest on May 24, 1986. She preceded him in death.
He was a Muscatine Firefighter from 1975 – 1993 and a veteran of the United States Army. He started J. S. Fire in 1978 and was a member of the Ss. Mary Mathias Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating riding his motorcycle, walking his dog, going to the Daytona 500, and spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by two children, John Shryock Jr. (Tracy Forbes) of Florida, Melissa Thomas (Jeff) of Davenport; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Hoffman (Josh), Mark Hoffman, Jesse Strang, Jacob Strang, and Shaylee Graber (Shaylon); seven great grandchildren, Elijah, Josie, Bella, Lucas, Dallas, Dakota, Jonathan; and four siblings, Nancy Coulter, Stephen Shryock, Patrick Shryock, and Rick Deniz.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; and one brother, James Shryock.
