Virginia Irene (Abbott) Chamberlin, 77, passed away on September 8, 2024 at Lutheran Living Senior Campus in Muscatine, Iowa.
Born July 12, 1947, in Muscatine, Iowa, she was the daughter of Donald Leo Abbott and Ruth Pauline Gipple Abbott. Her Grandparents were Flora Mae Marks Abbott and Isaac Spencer Abbott, and Ethel Huston Gipple and Vernon Edward Gipple.
Virginia graduated from Winfield-Mount Union High School and the Burlington Beauty Academy. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Marycrest University. Before retiring, she managed the Muscatine Head Start program. Additionally, she was deeply involved with the Muscatine Masquers community theatre group, where she acted, directed, and produced numerous plays and musicals for several years.
She is survived by her two sons: D. Kyle Walton and his wife Deborah L. Walton of Iowa City, IA, and W. Scott Chamberlin and his wife Christina M. Chamberlin of Riverside, IA. Virginia also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Francesca I. (Michael) Walton Nugent of Cedar Rapids, IA, Parker S. Chamberlin of Iowa City, IA, and Alexandra G. (Cameron) Walton Johnson of Valparaiso, IN. Other surviving family includes: her sister Alice M. (Larry) Coleman of Mount Pleasant, IA, brother-in-law David F. Owens of Ainsworth, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, husband Douglas V. Walton, ex-husband Douglas C. Chamberlin, and sister, Janette J. Abbott Owens.
Visitation services to honor Virginia’s life will be held at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home on September 16, 2024, from 4-7 pm. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lutheran Living Senior Campus of Muscatine, in memory of Virginia Chamberlin. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com
