Two in-depth sessions scheduled for City Council this week – Voice Of Muscatine

Two in-depth sessions have been scheduled for the Muscatine City Council this week with a special session on Wednesday and the regularly scheduled in-depth session on Thursday.

The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend when the Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday and again at 6 p.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers on the second flood of Muscatine City Hall.  The meetings are open to all individuals regardless of language spoken or disability. Any person requiring a reasonable accommodation to participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1500.

Three subjects will be presented to the City Council on Wednesday beginning with a review of summer events in Muscatine by Rebecca Paulson, Vice-President of Operations and Tourism.

A review of parking meter technology and a discussion of a parking app system for the City of Muscatine will be led by Nancy Lueck, Finance Director, and John Kreuzenstein, Information Technology Manager.

That will be followed by Lueck reviewing the FY23-24 financial statements and how the City of Muscatine closed out the past fiscal year.

The final topic on Wednesday will be a discussion on sidewalks within the West Hill Project area.

Thursday will begin with a presentation by Assistant Community Development Director Andrew Fangman on a proposed medical facility to be built by ORA Orthopedics at 200th Street and Mulberry Avenue.

The second item on Thursday’s agenda is a request for consensus from the City Council to proceed with a lease with Muscatine Power and Water for a portion of the Muscatine Municipal Airport property to develop a solar generating facility.

Earlier this week the City was informed that applications to continue use of the fixed automatic traffic cameras was denied by the Department of Transportation. The City is now seeking direction from the City Council on a response to the DOT.

The final item on Thursday’s agenda will be a review of the expenditures and obligations from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Details and additional information on these agenda items can be found by clicking AGENDA and clicking on the August 1 City Council Agenda link to view the agenda and/or attachments, or to download a PDF version of the City Council agenda and/or attachments.

Several options are available for those who cannot attend in person but would like to watch the proceedings. The City Council meeting will be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Civic-TV (Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2).
