The City of Muscatine will observe the Veteran’s Day holiday on Monday with most city departments closed as the nation pauses to honor the many men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces protecting our country at home and abroad. All offices will reopen on Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reminds citizens that Veterans Day (originally called Armistice Day) marks the end of World War I hostilities on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. The observance of Veterans Day not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
