Last year, volunteers prepared 21 tax returns during two sessions, saving clients $4,200 in preparation fees and bringing $28,899 in refunds. This year, the VITA program hopes to serve even more clients and plans to offer three sessions at Muscatine Community College for individuals in our community to get their taxes done for free.

The first session will be held February 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second session will be held March 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The third session will be held April 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In order to make this possible, volunteer are needed.

Free online training will be available through the IRS for volunteers, and they’ll provide that information to volunteers once they have signed up. The VITA program needs to build a database of interested volunteers who can commit to one, two, or all three of the sessions listed above. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up HERE or email Hilary Henke at hilary@unitedwaymuscatine.org.
