Public invited to Comprehensive Plan Design Workshop – Voice Of Muscatine

Members of the public are invited to help plan for the future of Muscatine during a Design Workshop for the Comprehensive Plan Update Project. The workshop will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, at the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine located at 215 West Mississippi Drive. Residents will be able to sit down with members of the City of Muscatine staff and project consultants and create a list of the wants and needs of Muscatine for the next 20 years.

The City of Muscatine Comprehensive Plan is an important tool that provides guidance to community leaders and decision-makers for sound and efficient community growth patterns based on the vision of community stakeholders. The process of updating the Plan continues as project consultants, RDG Planning & Design, Inc., enters the second phase of the year-long project by refining the concepts and ideas accumulated through previous public input sessions.

More public input will be sought as the project continues.

Public participation is the cornerstone of the project, aptly named “Make It Muscatine”, and RDG Planning & Design, Inc., has developed a website that provides information on the planning process, promotes upcoming public input events, and features an interactive map for virtual engagement.

Hundreds have already visited the website and clicked on Interactive Map to drop a pin and share their ideas or concerns, but we still need more ideas from residents on what they would like to see in Muscatine’s future. You can also read through and react to the comments left by others.

Be sure to participate in the Community Survey, also available on the website, where you can share your ideas and priorities for the City of Muscatine.

For more information on the “Make it Muscatine” planning process and to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, visit the project website at Make It Muscatine.

Be sure to bookmark the project website and check in often for updates and opportunities to participate. You can also find a link to the “Comprehensive Plan” and “Updating the Comprehensive Plan” on the City of Muscatine website under Common Service Requests or on the Community Development page at Updating the Comprehensive Plan.

The current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2013. The goals contained within that plan were reviewed by Andrew Fangman, Senior Planner, during the Thursday (Dec. 12) Muscatine City Council in-depth session. The current plan contained 82 goals and 501 implementation strategies. View the presentation to the Council by clicking HERE.
