Wisconsin Governor expects more ag-related bills to reach his desk

Governor Tony Evers signed nearly a dozen new laws positively affecting Wisconsin agriculture Tuesday, but he tells Brownfield there are more bills he hopes to see pass in the State Senate. “I’d like to see some discussion on the tax credit one. I think that’s obviously important, but also the farmer’s mental health (bill).”

Evers also authorized one-time grants Wednesday to fund nearly 100 rural transportation projects. “Seventy million dollars I believe that went out into one hundred projects, many of them from rural Wisconsin, a lot of them to fix bridges that are preventing people from getting their products to market in a timely fashion so I think it’s going to be good for rural Wisconsin.”

Governor Evers says looking ahead, he expects to push for a sustainable transportation funding source and health care funding including accepting federal Medicaid dollars in his next budget.

Brownfield interviewed Evers after he met with the Wisconsin Agribusiness Association Board at the Capitol Wednesday.
