National Milk Producers Federation board approves dairy pricing plan

The National Milk Producers Federation is moving forward with milk pricing recommendations.

Jim Mulhern

President and CEO Jim Mulhern tells Brownfield their plan should meet Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack’s requirement of getting industry consensus before opening hearings on the federal milk marketing orders. “There’s a lot of similarities. We’re in sync in many of the issues that we’re proposing here so I’m very optimistic and positive about the degree of consensus within the producer community.”

Mulhern says the board is supporting a comprehensive plan that addresses many things including processor make allowances, and a return to calculating Class I fluid milk prices on the “higher of” Classes III and IV, like it was before the last farm bill.
