Propane incentives include federal grants

The USDA is offering grants to upgrade irrigation systems from diesel power to propane power. The agency’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provides financial assistance to farmers who are ready to make that change. Mike Newland with the Propane Education and Research Council tells Brownfield Ag News the USDA incentive opportunity falls under the category of improving energy efficiency. The USDA’s REAP grant allows for 25 percent of the total project cost, but Newland says there’s more. The Propane Education and Research Council is offering an incentive that’s in addition to what’s available from the USDA.
